What are discount and tracker mortgages?  Discount mortgages offer a discount off the lender's standard variable rate (SVR) for a specified period of time, e.g. 2% below SVR. Tracker mortgages mirror the Bank of England's base rate (BBR) for a given period of time. The product pay rate may be set at the same as the BBR or with a reduction or increase, e.g. BBR +0.25%, or BBR -0.25%. These types of mortgage are normally preferred by those who are looking for the lowest interest rate, but who can manage increases to their monthly payments.
